Google announces it will end Flash support.

Google has announced that it will stop indexing Flash content in Search as the internet prepares to bid the once ubiquitous technology goodbye.

"In web pages that contain Flash content, Google Search will ignore the Flash content," said Google engineering manager Dong-Hwi Lee in a blog post. "Google Search will stop indexing standalone SWF files."
Google, which has made removing Flash a priority for nearly a decade now, cited security threats and easily implemented alternatives as its core inspiration for the change. And while the change in technology is likely to continue, Google noted that users will not see any difference in web performance.
"Most users and websites won't see any impact from this change," Lee added.

Since its push began fewer than 5% of websites still use Flash content, down from nearly 30% in 2011.
