Grocery store chain Stop & Shop has issued a voluntary recall of its frozen broccoli after it was found to contain listeria by regulators in Connecticut, according to a report by 4 New York. The broccoli affected is Stop & Shop's store brand.

The recall was issued Wednesday when bacteria was found at a Stop & Shop on Ellington Road in South Windsor, Conn. The bacteria was found by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection's foods and standard division.
The frozen broccoli that may be affected is marked with UPC 068826700926 and has a code BEST BY MAR 15 2020. Customers that bought the frozen broccoli packages can return them to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

Listeria can cause symptoms such as a high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, and nausea. It can also cause deadly infections in people that have a weakened immune system such as infants, elderly adults, and individuals with certain medical conditions.

Michelle H. Seagull, consumer protection commission said in a statement, "We're incredibly proud that our staff was able to catch this during a routine sampling. We work hard every day across all of our divisions to ensure public health and safety both by conducting regular inspections and by responding to complaints.
